Wilson's popularity travelled to the United States in 2014, when she appeared as a character on Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman who has a difficult past and becomes involved with Noah Solloway. Wilson was honored with an Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in an Television Series in Drama 2015 together with Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson. I loved the opportunity to play a character from both points of view Wilson told British Vogue in 2015. Noah considers Alison in a confident, sexually sexy and reckless manner. Yet, Alison perceives herself in a distinct light. In reality, she is like a dowdy. She added "I consider that America is such a moral nation and they're so critical. The way they conduct themselves in the show appears shocking." In 2018 Wilson exited the show to the shock of many fans but she was not clear on other information. It was my intention to quit, but I'm not allowed to discuss the reasons why she said so during a CBS This Morning interview in August of 2018. Wilson has now turned her attention to film. In 2016, she appeared in the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing The House That Lives In and, in 2017, she was the mysterious character PT Stella in the sci-fi romantic comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Wilson will add another film of horror to her credits when she is in the British adaptation of The Little Stranger, a supernatural thriller based on the novel by Sarah Waters. Wilson is also executive producing The film.
